Addicks Dam Proposal and the Impact on Cypress Creek:

Comment now or swim later – text below from

The Army Corps of Engineers is requesting public comment on their proposals to mitigate flooding in the Addicks Dam area. Why should Cypress Creek residents be concerned?

As depicted om page 16 of attachment, one of the proposals to minimize water into the Addicks area is to erect a berm or levee south of Cypress Creek in the western part of Harris County. See the straight, heavy black line on the map. This levee would prevent waters spilling out of Cypress Creek from flowing south to Addicks as they have always done. With the levee in place all the flood waters would be contained in the Cypress Creek watershed. Meaning? More water for us.

Cypress Creek is a rural creek trying to do an urban drainage job and failing. It overtops with a 6" rain now days. If we insist on burdening it more, the flooding here along Harris County's longest stream and largest watershed will only worsen. Make your views on flooding along Cypress Creek known now.

Attend the meeting at Cypress Ridge High School, 7900 Eldridge Pkwy, on May 9th from 6-9pm. Presentations will be sho

wn at 6:30, 7:30 & 8:30. No opportunity for the public to speak will be offered, however citizens can visit with the Corps & HCFCD staff after the presentations to file comments.

Those unable to attend the meetings may submit written comments and mail them to the USACE, Galveston District, Attn: BBTRS, P.O. Box 1229, Galveston, TX 77553-1229. Comments may also be submitted electronically to All comments must be received or postmarked by May 31, 2019.
