Debris Management For Residential Areas
In the event of a storm, especially significant ones like hurricanes or tornados, WCID110 is committed to providing as much support for our community and residents as possible. It is never guaranteed that the District will provide debris pick-up services, the Board does work with our community HOAs and Precinct 3 Commissioners Office to find solutions that benefit our residents.
Regardless of whether the District will provide the debris pick-up service, it is important that all residents properly pile their debris to minimize damage to your property, keeping our roadways clear, and in a way that does not impede storm water flow or drains. The following tips are provided:
-
Sort your debris into similar material (vegetation, appliance/electronics, construction/demo, etc).
-
Cut large debris (if possible) into smaller, more manageable debris.
-
If you have an entire tree, cut it into sections that can be picked up by a grapple truck.
-
NOTE: Grapple trucks are not always provided following a storm. The WCID110 Board will assess district-wide damages and debris and make a decision on a storm by storm case as to whether the District can provide grapple truck pick-ups. It is not guaranteed that grapple trucks are available in a timely manner depending on the total scope of a storm to the entire area.
-
-
The grapple truck cannot load massive tree sections with a root ball still attached.
-
-
Pile debris as high as you can.
-
Make sure your piles are:
-
on your property close to the curb.
-
piled high enough that you are minimizing potential damage to large sections of your property.
-
not placed near trees, mailboxes, fire hydrants, light poles, underneath a tree with low branches, or any other structure or obstruction.
-
not in the street.
-
not blocking storm drainage or storm sewers.
-
-
Smaller debris, like leaves/pine needles/small branches), can be bagged and left next to your normal household trash. Bags can be picked up by Best Trash on normal pick-up days along with your regular household trash.
-
NOTE: Harris County Precinct 3 does provide debris pick-up after some storms. Precinct 3 has slightly different policies for their pick-up. To see those differences, please visit the Harris County Precinct 3 website for more information.
-
-
If Best Trash does provide debris pick-up, they will get as much as they can from your property. They will not rake up or tend to your yard after the pile is removed.
-
Residents are welcome to also secure their own debris removal at their own expense at any time even if the District is providing debris pick-up.
