Harris County Hazardous Waste Collection

For items that cannot be recycled or disposed of through regular garbage pick-up, residents can take specific items to the Harris County Hazardous Waste Collection by appointment only. Residents of Harris County who reside outside of the incorporated City of Houston limits may use the facility to properly dispose of unwanted household hazardous items from their homes that they no longer want. HHW collection services are free to residents of unincorporated Harris County!

Appointments can be scheduled online by clicking on this link.

The HHW Facility is located at 690  Hahl Road (at the NW corner of Gessner and 290), Houston, TX 77040.

The facility is open to the public on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. The facility is always closed the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.

This facility can only accept items from your household that have been used for household purposes.
For information on how to properly dispose of items from businesses, non-profit organizations, churches, schools, and other non-household related items please call the TCEQ small business assistance line at 1 (800) 447-2827.

Which HHW Items Do We Accept?

Some jobs around the home may require the use of products containing hazardous components that are flammable, corrosive, toxic, or reactive. Some of these products are identified by such words as "warning," "danger," "toxic," "corrosive," "irritant," "flammable," or "caution" on their labels.

When HHW is disposed of in our trash cans, it can contaminate landfills and, subsequently, our groundwater. When dumped onto the ground or poured into the storm sewer, HHW can contaminate surface water. In either case, water contamination results in higher water treatment costs and has a detrimental effect on the ecosystem.

You can make a difference by bringing these items to the HHW Facility so they can be properly disposed of for a cleaner and safer environment. Click here for tips on safely transporting your HHW items to our facility.

Please place empty containers (except aerosol cans) in your regular trash or recycling bin.
