HARRIS COUNTY WATER CONTROL AND IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT No. 110 NOTICE TO CEASE
RAKING LAWN DEBRIS IN STORM DRAINS
The arrival of spring heralds the return to mowing and manicuring our lawns. Manicured lawns are lovely, and require disposing of lawn debris consisting of leaves, and grass clippings. If you've been blowing lawn debris into the street and down the storm drain - you've blown it! Lawn debris should never be blown or raked into storm drains. When lawn debris and excess leaves enter storm drains, it has the potential to clog the pipes and cause street flooding. Over time, the lawn debris that collects in the storm drain inhibits the proper functioning of storm drains which in turn impedes the flow of rainwater. Except for the gated communities, the storm drains located in the streets in the Water District are owned by Harris County. It is not incumbent on Harris County to remove lawn debris which has intentionally been raked or blown into the storm drains. We know you want to do your part to refrain from contributing to flooding. Never rake or blow lawn debris into streets, the storm drains or drainage ditches. Place the lawn debris in bags and place the bags curbside on the designated trash pickup day. Thanks for your cooperation.
